This mission is like a subset of Visibilities .

You are given a list of strings as grid. Empty cells will be represented by '.', and the blocks - by 'X'. Blocks are not adjacent to each other vertically and horizontally.

One area consists of empty cells that are adjacent to each other vertically and horizontally. You must return the coordinates of the blocks that make the boundary.


                     'X..'])) == {(0, 2), (1, 1), (2, 0)}
                     'X..'])) == set()
                     '....'])) == {(0, 0), (0, 2), (1, 1)}

Input: A list of strings.

Output: An iterable of tuples of two integers (In row, column order).


  • 3 ≤ len(grid) ≤ 20
  • 3 ≤ len(grid[0]) ≤ 20
  • all(set(row) <= {'.', 'X'} for row in grid)

CheckiO Extensions

CheckiO Extensions allow you to use local files to solve missions. More info in a blog post.

In order to install CheckiO client you'll need installed Python (version at least 3.8)

Install CheckiO Client first:

pip3 install checkio_client

Configure your tool

checkio --domain=py config --key=

Sync solutions into your local folder

checkio sync

(in beta testing) Launch local server so your browser can use it and sync solution between local file end extension on the fly. (doesn't work for safari)

checkio serv -d

Alternatevly, you can install Chrome extension or FF addon

checkio install-plugin
checkio install-plugin --ff
checkio install-plugin --chromium
