Thanks to everyone who attended our Kiev meetup! It was an amazing time, not just for the work done, but for the chance to connect with the community members who’ve made CheckiO so unique. For those who didn’t have a chance to make it, here’s a quick breakdown of the experience.
The centerpiece of the Kiev meetup was our “Fight Club” competition. The setup was simple enough: two challengers go into a coding arena and only one would reign supreme. We had the system randomly choose participants for each round and then also randomly select the challenge they’d face head-on. Whoever solved the selected challenge first got three points while the loser only got one. The winner could also earn an extra point by helping their competitor understand the solution if they got stuck.
After each round, we tallied points at our tournament judging table, kept a running score of all participants, and lined up bouts. Everyone had a marvelous time and we’ll continue tweaking the Fight Club rules for other meetups down the road. One idea we had is that the more rounds someone wins, the more difficult their challenges will become—or we could switch up complexity challenges for pair programming contests instead.
