suddenly after a two years I realised that my solution is not correct. for example, ['.xx', 'xoo', 'oo.'] is not a win neither for 'X' nor for 'O', but will be classified as 'X'. fix: sample = "$".join(gameresult) instead of sample = "".join(gameresult)

just for fun: we can replace 6:11 rows with next: <pre class='brush: python'>return ('OOO' in data and 'O') or ('XXX' in data and 'X') or 'D' </pre> brackets were added only for readability. They are not needed

I like this solution because she is clear but I don't understand the mechanism [i:9:3]. Do you have a tuto which explain the mechanism ? I did do the same thing but with a "for loop" for to have the columns. <pre class='brush: python'> for unite in range(len(game_result)): for lettre in range(len(game_result)): column += game_result[lettre][unite] if len(set(column)) == 1 and column[0] in ["X", "O"]: return (column[0]) column = "" if column == "": return "D" </pre>
