Although I don't understand why this works, this is obviously very creative.

Maybe a bit of explanation then: <ul> <li>First line: declarations and suits/values in descending order</li> <li>Seond line: generation of all combinations of 5 cards, higher cards first</li> <li>Third line: poker hand ranking function: `7...` is for straight, `8...` is for flush and `sum(...)` takes care of all other hands.</li> </ul>
