I think this inspired my <a href="https://py.checkio.org/mission/restricted-sum/publications/StefanPochmann/python-3/checkio-sum/">mathematical solution</a> (which I guess wasn't possible yet 10 years ago...)

Open IDLE (or some other Python REPL), and try: <pre class='brush: python'>"su" + "m" "\x6d" "su\x6d" eval("sum") help(sum) </pre> Any clearer? If not, ask.
