<pre class='brush: python'>if items else [] </pre> is actually not necessary. This is enough: <pre class='brush: python'>return items[1:] + items[0] </pre> Example: this returns and prints out and an empty list: <pre class='brush: python'>print([][10:90]) </pre>

<pre class='brush: python'>items[0] </pre> won't work with an empty list. However, <pre class='brush: python'>return items[1:] + items[:1] </pre> would, good catch!
