Why does this if statement seem a bit backwards to me? Why is the conditional clause after the statement we want to perform if it is true?

Another neat way to do it. It's a little shorter than my solution but I wonder, whether there are any reasons (like computing time/use of resources) to prefer the built-in 'len()' over a solution with exception handling (i.e. try: and except:) or vice versa. Does anybody know what the effects would be if this mission would be 'scaled up'?
