Instead of the last two lines, <pre class='brush: python'>return add(*data) </pre> would also do the trick. BTW, I thought that addition of a+b in Peano arithmetic is O(a), not O(a*b)... :-)

That is true, since we know there are 2 elements in the array, but since it was provided I didn't think to change it. I couldn't pattern match on the constructor of the arguments, which would provide a more exact implementation. So it is just a cheap (or not :P) substitute.
