<p>I'd suggest using isinstance(subs, list) for type checking, though even better isinstance(subs, collections.abc.Iterable)</p>

<p>There's no difference in result, readability or performance, right? But `isinstance(subs, list)` should be fine (it used the most), thank for your comment. `isinstance(subs, collections.abc.Iterable)` need an import and it is less readability. There are any pros for this solution?</p>
