How do I even approach trying to understand this magic? Can't tell arse from elbow in this code. It's brilliantly succinct and obfuscated :-) But what do I do to start writing like this? My solution was a boring BFS, but what's going on here?

If you don't understand it, I guess you can just ask Altarfinch about it directly (of course, you can ask me also, but I might misrepresent their ideas). If you do understand that solution, but not this one, then it becomes interesting and I'll do my best to explain.
