In my opinion this is the cleanest and most readable solution using the dictionary approach (which I didn't even think of) that I've seen so far. Thanks for sharing, this is helping me a lot.

I downvote because all operations are executed every time. This may be very slow if you execute the function many times.

Could you please tell me why all functions are executed every time? I thought that it would execute function after search in dict. and if so, what if the lambda would be used instead? Thanks

No, all the dict items in such case would be executed where they are defined but you can wrap them at lambdas and call them later. <pre class='brush: python'> results = {"conjunction" : lambda x,y: x and y, "disjunction" : lambda x,y: x or y, "implication" : lambda x,y: y or not x, "exclusive" : lambda x,y: x ^ y, "equivalence" : lambda x,y: x == y } return results[operation]() </pre>
